Introduction to enterprise; student example pitches; overview of startup process;
Intellectual property overview; funding opportunities; business consultancy approaches; importance of branding.

Self-working:
Product development: derivation of product; creation of product specification; ethical and standards consideration, creation of prototype.
Business development: team development; product development; marketing approaches; financial planning.
Development of a challenging application: idea generation; application study; market study.

Learning Objectives

- Demonstrate competencies in entrepreneurship throughout the entire project.
- Demonstrate ability to research in a specific application domain and use research to devise novel and creative approaches within a business context.
- Practice independent learning and show ability to address a problem in a manner that demonstrates critical thinking and responsible reasoning underpinning decisions.
- Design solutions for complex problems that evidence some originality and meet a combination of societal, user, business and customer need as appropriate. This will involve consideration of applicable health & safety, diversity, inclusion, cultural, societal, sustainable and commercial matters, codes of practice and industry standards.
- Identify and analyse ethical concerns, including sustainability, and make reasoned ethical choices informed by professional codes of conduct.
- Show competency in a range of professional skills including those relating to presentation, report writing, project planning, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Develop practice in explaining, documenting, and promoting a developed prototype.
- Communicate effectively on complex engineering matters with technical and non-technical audiences, evaluating the effectiveness of the methods used.
- Plan and record self-learning and development as the foundation for lifelong learning/CPD
